This year saw a very impressive iPhone 16 launch, but no one could have predicted how badly Apple would do things on the software side. We’ve already seen one bad software update after another from Apple these past few months, but now it turns out that your iPhone 16 of choice probably won’t deliver on its promises until 2026.
What do we mean? There are two biggest selling points for the iPhone 16: the camera control button and Apple Intelligence. Given all the attention Apple paid to the latter, we’d say it was the biggest upgrade in the company’s eyes. However, when the iPhone 16 was released, there was no Apple Intelligence. It turned out that Apple’s AI tools would be rolling out gradually until sometime next year. One of the most impressive changes that Apple mentioned in its presentations – the completely revamped Siri – would be the last major update. But Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now reveals that this revamped Siri won’t be announced until 2025, and will actually launch in 2026, possibly after the iPhone 17 launch.
It’s just a joke, people paid for the iPhone 16 but won’t get what Apple was bragging about until after the iPhone 17 is a few weeks into the market next year.
Instead, upcoming iOS updates will allow users to make do with ChatGPT and Gemini. Siri may get some upgrades next year according to Gurman, but most of what was unveiled is now slated for 2026. That includes Siri’s ability to interface directly with apps on your phone. At the very least being able to derive insights from user data and on-screen elements could be a thing next year – although it will be powered by basic artificial intelligence – claims Gurman.
