You should never store your shoes here – the hidden reason

If you haven’t already taken out your autumn shoes and boots, it’s about time to do so. Then it can also be good to review your hall situation so that the shoes are not destroyed. Because there is a reason why many people ruin their shoes – just by the way they are stored.

“Could be pure death”

During the winter months, we raise the temperature in our homes. We increase the heat on the elements, fire in stoves and turn on the underfloor heating. And it is precisely the latter heat source that is the culprit in the fate of many shoes.

– The underfloor heating simply dries out the materials, and above all if they are plastic soles or rubber soles, say shoemakers Jörgen Stålborn to P4 Sjuhärad.

Much of the material that shoes and shoe soles are made of simply does not like heat. Here, the quality or price range of the shoe does not play a role in the negative impact of the heat.

– The lifespan is perhaps halved if they stand straight against the floors because they become a drying process in the soles which is not so good, he says.

Soles made of leather, on the other hand, are less affected by the heat.

This is how the shoes should be stored

To prevent your shoes from being damaged by storage in the home, where there is underfloor heating, the shoes need to come up a bit from the floor.

– Shoe racks are preferred so that the shoe comes up a decimeter or five centimeters from the slope, advises Jörgen Stålborn in P4 Seven-way.

The main rule is that shoes should not be in direct contact with the heated floor.
