You will be surprised! We know how much the Pixel 9 Pro costs to make

  • The production costs of the Pixel 9 Pro are significantly lower than the iPhone 16 Pro
  • Google saved mainly on the display and cameras
  • Both phones cost the same $999

An interesting report from Japan reveals the real production costs of the new generation of top models from Google and Apple. While Pixel 9 Pro will cost Google only 406 dollars (converted to about 9,500 CZK), Apple must pay for parts to iPhone 16 Pro pay 568 dollars (about 13,300 CZK). That’s a fairly significant difference, especially when we consider that both phones start at the same price in the US, i.e. $999.

According to data published by the Nikkei server, Google managed to reduce component costs by 11% year-on-year. However, it should be noted that the comparison with last year’s Pixel 8 Pro is not entirely fair – the new model has a smaller display and battery, which of course means lower costs. A direct comparison would make more sense with the Pixel 9 Pro XL.

Chips pay the most

If we look at the specific components, the most expensive item in both phones is the processor. While the chipset Tensor G4 Google pays $80, Apple pays for its own A18 Pro 135 dollars. For the record, Qualcomm charges almost $200 for its top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite chips.
Samsung displays are also an important item – the M14 panel costs $75 for the Pixel, and $110 for the iPhone. Google’s cameras cost $61, while Apple invests $91 in sensors.

However, it is important to note that these amounts only represent the cost of the components themselves. Research, development, marketing, transportation and many other items must also be factored into the total price. In addition, later discounts and promotions, which further reduce the final margin, must also be taken into account.

Are you surprised that there is such a difference between the Pixel and the iPhone?
