TVP has reached an agreement with Canal+. Under the agreement, it will be able to broadcast some Champions League matches – unfortunately, the worse ones
In less than two weeks (September 17), the first matches of this year’s Champions League will start. The main broadcasting rights belong to Canal+ and that’s where we will see all the matches, but thanks to an agreement between C+ and TVP, we will also be able to watch several matches for free on Telewizja Polska. The national broadcaster announced the details of the cooperation recently, giving hope to those viewers who do not have Canal+ as part of their subscription. The problem, however, is that TVP is a second-rate broadcaster in this case.
There will be no blockbuster meeting on TVP
One of the biggest hits (if not the biggest) of the first round of the Champions League will be the match with the current kings of the Premier League and Serie A – Manchester City vs. Inter Milan. This is the match that Polish fans have been keenly anticipating, but this match will be reserved only for Canal+. In return, TVP will show the much less attractive match between Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund.
This decision has been criticized on social media, but TVP claims that it had little say in choosing the lesser evil. The agreement between TVP and Canal+ assumes that the national broadcaster will only be able to choose second-choice matches – all the hits of the big teams remain in the hands of Canal+. Telewizja Polska therefore had Club Brugge-Borussia Dortmund, PSG-Girona and Celtic-Slovan Bratislava at its disposal – so it must be admitted that it was the best choice in terms of football skills and stars in both squads.
In football topics, let us remind you that today at 20:45 the Polish national team led by Michał Probierz will face Scotland. Where to watch the match for free? You will find out from this entry.
