You will soon (finally) be able to change your iCloud email address

iOS 18.1 makes it easier to change the primary email address of your Apple ID, reports MacRumors. In addition, in the new version of iOS you can finally change your @icloud.com or @me.com email address.

The primary email address of your AppleID is the address you use to log in, but also the address where you can be reached via FaceTime and iMessage. Changing that address is already possible, but you must first delete your current primary email address via the settings of your iOS device. In iOS 18 there will be a simple button to change your primary email address in one tap, without having to delete the previous one. Because this is not necessary, you can continue to use your old primary address in addition to the new one to log in.

In addition, for the first time it will be possible to change your @icloud.com or @me.com email address. Now that address is not editable, which can be annoying as it is visible when, for example, you collaborate with others on a document. If you chose an email address years ago that you would now rather get rid of, then you were simply out of luck until recently.

Finally getting rid of that old address

In the same place where you can change your primary email address, you can also easily change your iCloud address. Apple does warn that from now on you will no longer be reachable at that email address. This can be solved, because via the settings you can also set an alias where you can be reached in addition to that address, which is linked to the same inbox.
