“Young people are the protagonists of our future”

The event – ​​explained Masiello – “is a very important moment in the life of every soldier, especially for these young people who will swear fidelity to the homeland. The entire Army is investing in young people because, in my vision, they will be the protagonists of ours change. From the first day of my inauguration I wanted this message to be clear: the Army can only change if everyone participates and above all if young people do it. Because they are the only ones who have the ability to quickly intercept changes. So, I asked for help from all the young people in the Army to help me adapt the Corps to the new realities, to new challenges, to make it technological and more modern”.

When asked “how does the Army invest in young people”, the Chief of Staff replied that “we make them participate in the decision making process. This is my goal, which is not easy to achieve in a hierarchical organization. Because there are many filters so a lot of time is needed before an idea can reach the young person at the top. This is why I launched the project zero distanceto try to unite the center up to the departments in order to give everyone, regardless of rank, the opportunity to express their opinions. I always say that ideas have no degrees and they can come from anyone, so we have made some email addresses available to which anyone can write and we have an Innovation Manager in each department who has direct access and who can write to me directly with new ideas. Now we are also launching a new initiative, “A coffee with the boss”. So whenever I can I will spend some time with 4-5 people outside of hierarchical ties. This direct comparison serves to feel the goddesses who come from below. They are the protagonists of the future Army.”
