Young people in limbo: “It feels as if what I choose now, I have to do for the rest of my life”

For every day that passes, the decision comes closer. And it is difficult, because it seems incredibly important. In fact, it feels as if it is crucial for the rest of life.

This is how 16-year-old Kaya Høgenhav often thinks about the choice of youth education.

That is why she and many others her age take a ‘thinking year’ after primary school to buy some time and try out different subjects. Many go to secondary school, and Kaya Høgenhav also considered that, but in the end the family could not afford it. That is why she is on her way to the 10th grade center UCS10 in Skanderborg on Monday morning. In the next year, she will try to come to a decision before she stands on the threshold of the next big chapter in her life.

“I think a lot about what I want to do after 10th grade. There are many possibilities. It’s so difficult, because if I now decide that I want to do something with design, and then choose something else, I might end up at 26 and have regretted that I didn’t choose something else. I really feel that it is a big decision.’
