A young university student was found dead this Saturday on a public road, in Porto, in circumstances that are still being investigated by the police, a source from the Porto PSP Metropolitan Command told Lusa.
According to the source, the body was found by a woman who was passing by the place, in Travessa da Carvalhosa, parish of Cedofeita, who raised the alarm.
“The body showed signs of violence, which is why the Judiciary Police were called”said the same source.
The body was found on a public street near a university residence.
The circumstances that led to the death of the young man, who was barefoot, are still being investigated, as “there are several hypotheses” that only the investigation, now carried out by the PJ, will help to clarify.
In a statement, the University of Porto (UP) expresses “its deepest regret” over the death of the young resident of the Ventura Terra University Residence.
UP also adds that a psychological support team is on site providing support to the student’s colleagues and university residence staff.
In the same note, UP says that, in the coming days, “a broad psychological support plan will be implemented aimed at the student’s colleagues, friends and family, ensuring the availability of specialized services to welcome and support any member of the academic community who requires support. ”.
“Out of respect for the privacy of family and friends”, the University of Porto informs that it will not disclose additional information about the student’s identity.
