YouTube enables simplified sharing with timestamp

On Android and iOS, mobile users can now share YouTube clips including a timestamp, which they can easily activate.

Do you want to share a video that starts playing at a specific point for the person you’re talking to? This has been possible on YouTube for a long time. In the desktop version of the platform, you can simply tick a box and set the time manually – which is also possible via the URL. In the mobile context, however, there is now a simplified sharing option for specific video moments.

Some app researchers like Saadh Jawwadh and Alessandro Antonucci have already discovered the feature, which we can also access.

If you tap the share icon in a YouTube video played on a mobile device, you can forward the clip via various channels. Above all, you can now also simply use a slider to manage the video start time with the current timestamp if desired. If you activate the function with a quick swipe, you can quickly and easily start the video in the sent version from the desired point.

In addition to such small adjustments to the platform UX, YouTube is currently delivering much more important updates. For many creators and users, the new YouTube communities, as well as the integration of the AI model Veo for background creation in Shorts and the Hype feature for increasing visibility, are likely to be of far greater interest.
