YouTube has introduced a change in the latest version of its mobile application that not everyone may like. Here’s how it will work from now on.
YouTube regularly introduces changes both within the platform itself and in mobile and TV applications. Whoever stands still, goes backwards – everyone knows that. But Google can sometimes go too far with its changes. Apparently the point of view depends on the seating point, but in the case of this particular module – from my perspective… it used to be better.
A new way to choose playback speed on YouTube
Choosing playback speed is not an option that everyone uses on a daily basis. However, its presence, development and refinement clearly prove that it has a loyal group of fans and recipients. In the latest version of the application for Android (19.43) and iOS (19.44), Google has changed the set of several playback speeds (i.e.: 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, Normal, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x and 2x ) to the slider where we can adjust it more precisely. Just below it there are buttons that allow you to jump to the value you are interested in without using the slider.
Now users have more control — and while they can adjust everything in small amounts using the plus and minus symbols at the edges of the slider — they can add 0.5 values to the currently selected value. Greater control probably means greater convenience for many who regularly visit this option. As a user who uses it regularly, but not every day – I regret that the selections lacked 1.75x, which I regularly use for some materials. So one more click awaits me ;-).
