YouTube – is getting a lot of useful new features

You will be able to try out the latest functions even without a premium subscription.

YouTube is doing its best to keep as many people as possible on the platform through various updates and features, and at least drive them towards the Premium subscription. The video sharing platform has always focused on user feedback, and now it’s rolling out several new features that respond to those needs.

One of the most important new features is the so-called Sleep Timer, previously only available to Premium subscribers. Paid users have been able to experiment with the function since August, but it is now being widely introduced.

As the name of the function suggests, it is a kind of timer that allows you to set the time after which the playback stops. This can be especially useful, for example, before going to sleep, as this way we can avoid the videos playing until the morning. According to YouTube’s announcement, you can choose from 10, 15, 20, 30, 45 minutes and 1 hour options, and you can also time the switch off at the end of the given video.

The function can be activated while playing a video Settings > Sleep timer can be reached by route.

The mini-player has also been renewed, which reduces the size of videos so that we can continue browsing the platform. The updated version offers smoother use, as the window can be freely resized and moved.

Also new is that from now on we can set the playback speed on a smaller scale. While previously it was possible to change with a scale of 0.25x, from now on you can also fine-tune the speed at a level of 0.05.

In addition to these, a number of smaller novelties are coming: you can invite others to create or expand a joint playlist with a QR code, you can set your own photo as the cover image of the lists, and you can earn badges with your activities on the platform.

In principle, the updates became available today in YouTube’s mobile app, on its web interface and on smart TVs, but they will certainly reach most users gradually in the coming weeks.
