One of the main benefits of YouTube Premium is that you can watch videos without adverts. Videos can also be downloaded for offline viewing and can also be played in the background. In addition, you have full access to YouTube Music Premium. The individual subscription previously cost 15.90 francs in Switzerland, while YouTube Premium Family for up to five family members cost 23.90 francs. Users have now been informed by email that the prices are increasing. The new price applies immediately to new subscribers and from the next payment for existing customers. The individual subscription increases by two francs to 17.90 francs and the Youtube Premium Familie rises by a massive 10 francs to 33.90 francs.

Youtube remains quite vague about the reasons for the increase and writes:

We’ve made this decision after careful consideration so we can continue to improve Premium membership and support the creators and artists whose content you find on YouTube.

In Germany and Austria there seems to be no price increase at the moment. But in fifteen other countries there is, as you can see here on Reddit There is a lot of discontent and many people seem to be cancelling their family subscriptions.

Youtube Premium via Apple even more expensive

Anyone who has purchased YouTube Premium through Apple will have to pay even more for it. Because Apple also takes a cut. The current prices for new subscriptions in Switzerland are 23.90 francs for an individual subscription and a whopping 43.90 francs for a family subscription. In this case, it is definitely worth considering canceling the subscription and booking it directly from YouTube.
