This is a shorter format of clips, but they will soon get a new one. The main one is the fact that the length of Shorts will be extended up to 3 minutes.
YouTube Shorts will be longer
Short videos known as YouTube Shorts will be longer. As she announced streaming platform on its blog, the change will happen as early as October 15, 2024. Starting on this day, users will be able to upload videos that are up to three minutes long.
It’s one of the features that many content creators have been clamoring for. At the same time, with this step, YouTube is also getting closer to the competing platform TikTok, which is known especially for its short videos. However, TikTok is constantly increasing the video length limits, and currently a maximum video length of 10 minutes can be uploaded.

Older videos unchanged
The new feature introduced by YouTube is not intended to affect older videos and will apply to videos with a square or portrait format. At the same time, YouTube added that it still plans to continue improving short videos and that users could expect other innovations in the coming months.
YouTube Shorts with templates
There are several novelties and short videos have received a new function, namely templates. Creators can try these out by clicking Remix and then selecting Use this template. In the coming months, the possibility to remix clips from popular YouTube videos will be added, and it will even be possible to mix several clips.
