Zeekr 7X breaks the glass by itself if you fall into the water to prevent drowning

The water pressure, when you accidentally fall into a lake/sea/river, is so great that – along with the panic of the moment – it is practically impossible to open the door and escape the danger. It is worth noting that these situations lead to thousands of drownings around the world, as – in the US alone – an average of 400 people drown each year.

But, it seems that Zeekr thought of this scenario as well. In its latest SUV, the 7x, it has added a feature to deal with urban flooding and the dangers of water entering the car.

More specifically, the all-electric SUV features a lever that allows the driver to break its window if it falls into water, with Zeekr reporting that it’s the first time a car has had this feature.

As you will see in the video above, on the driver’s door, there is a removable panel just below the window switches. There is a lever there, which when pulled releases a special “hammer” for breaking the window and hits the bottom of the window.

Zeekr says the function is designed to be accessible and only needs 50Nm of force to activate. However, the hammer can apply 3,000 Nm of force to break the window, which is about 33 times the impact force of a standard safety hammer or equivalent to five grown men hitting the window at the same time.
