Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was against German Chancellor Olaf Scholz talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone, Reuters reported today, citing an unnamed source in Zelensky’s office.
– The president said that it would only help Putin in reducing his isolation. Putin does not want real peace, but only a break – the source allegedly said.
Soltz and Zelensky spoke earlier today, before Soltz spoke to Putin, for the first time since December 2022.
During the conversation with Putin, the German chancellor requested that Russia show readiness for negotiations with Ukraine and the goal of a just and lasting peace, and demanded that Russia withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory.
Scholz reiterated that Germany is determined to support Ukraine in the war with Russia as long as possible, the spokesman of the German government announced, adding that Scholz, before calling Putin, spoke with Ukrainian President Zelensky.
The conversation between Putin and Solac lasted about an hour in the morning.
