Zelensky condemns Russian attack on Ukraine on Christmas Day

The Ukrainian president called Wednesday’s Russian attack on Ukraine’s power grid “inhumane.” Volodymyr Zelensky says Russia made a “conscious choice” in launching a nighttime attack on Christmas Day.

The Ukrainian air force said it detected 184 missiles and drones. The report states that there were casualties in the attack, but does not provide numbers.

“Russian evil will not destroy Ukraine, nor will it distort Christmas”Zelensky added via the Telegram application. The attack left several regions of Ukraine without electricity.

However, the Kremlin confirmed the attack, which caused power cuts across Ukraine. Russian defense forces admitted that they carried out a “massive attack” on “critical” energy facilities, ensuring that all targets were hit.

Joe Biden has also reacted to the attack and promised to deliver more weapons to Kiev.

“The aim of this shocking attack was to cut off the Ukrainian people’s access to heat and electricity during the winter and put the security of their grid at risk,” the US president said in a statement.

Joe Biden also ordered the Pentagon “to continue its wave of arms deliveries to Ukraine”. “The Ukrainian people deserve to live in peace and security, and the United States and the international community must continue to support Ukraine,” added the American president.
