Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy estimated on Saturday that the war caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine could end next year after Donald Trump becomes US president again. From his future counterpart, Zelenski wants to hear “proposals” that lead to this result, but also mean “a firmer position” of the US towards Russia, Agerpres reported.

“When will the war end? It will end when Russia wants it to end. When the United States will take a firmer position. When the Global South will support Ukraine and support the end of the war,” Zelensky said in a statement to the media foreigners at the “Grain from Ukraine” conference.

The Ukrainian president expressed confidence that sooner or later decisions will be made to end the war. “It will not be an easy road, but I am confident that we have every chance to succeed next year”, he claimed.

“We are open to proposals from the leaders of African, Asian and Arab states. I would also like to hear the proposals of the new US president and I think we will hear them in January (when Donald Trump takes office n.ed) and we will have a plan let’s end this war,” Zelensky indicated.

The Republican president-elect promised on the campaign trail for the Nov. 5 election that, if re-elected to the White House, he would quickly end the Russian-Ukrainian war, without ever explaining how he thought he might do so, and criticized the administration’s responsiveness Democratic President Joe Biden to provide Ukraine with the massive military and financial aid requested by Zelenski. However, after winning the election, Trump avoided commenting on the war in Ukraine.
