President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke today with the new Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rute, which is his first foreign visit since he was appointed to the position of Secretary General of the Alliance.

– Today, the new head of NATO, Mark Rute, visited Kyiv for the first time – immediately after receiving the powers of the Secretary General of the Alliance. It is clear how important it is to fully implement each of our agreements on support in the field of defense that is needed to end this war (with Russia) – Zelenski said after the conversation with Ruta, Ukrinform reported.

The President of Ukraine added that air defense is important for Ukraine.

– We see that one of the main reasons for the lack of security in the sky of Ukraine, especially near the NATO borders, is the absence of decisions on joint work and defense. What works in the sky of the Middle East and helps the defense of Israel, can also work in the sky in our part of Europe – said Zelenski.

He emphasized that Ukraine will continue to convince its partners to introduce means for effective protection of the sky. Zelensky added that “the question of inviting Ukraine to NATO is constantly on the negotiating table.”

According to him, today he discussed the details of Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance with Rute.
