The diamond brand tells us more about the new illuminated grille as well as the illuminated logo on the front of the new Renault 4 E-Tech Electric.
The light signature is a strong element of a car’s identity. The new Renault 4 E-Tech Electricunveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, is the brand’s first vehicle to benefit from a backlit grille and a luminous logo.
A recent regulatory development
The European legislation on automotive lighting has recently evolved, in June 2023: from now on, the illumination of elements such as the logo or the grille is authorized. However, this authorization is accompanied by drastic regulatory constraints: the illuminated logo must have a maximum size of 100 cm², must be symmetrical in shape, and its light must be white, fixed, with a framed and uniform intensity over the entire room. . Finally, no appendage must protrude from the bodywork.
“The Renault 4 E-Tech Electric was the right candidate to take advantage of this new opportunity with the idea of reinventing the iconic front of the original R4, through the use of light: it will be the first model to inaugurate a logo and a bright grille. The original R4 had chrome that surrounded the entire grille and headlights. This chrome, we made it luminous. Its frontal diamond and its recognizable grille, both symmetrical in shape, would therefore light up”précise Stefano Bolis, Chief Designer Design Strategy and Advanced Techs chez Renault.
Renault 4 E-Tech Electric: an iconic grille reinvented
Renault is playing the neo-retro card to the fullest, with the new Renault 4 E-Tech Electric and Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, which are enjoying great success with the public. They both benefit from a strong identity, with numerous stylistic elements which are a nod to the iconic models of yesteryear. This is the case of the chrome grille of the Renault 4, reinterpreted by the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric. The brand’s designers have made it more modern, with more character to make the new opus more futuristic. For example, we find a sculpted pattern in the bottom of this grille, which highlights the illuminated acronym, which is found floating.
THE round lights of the Renault 4 are also reinterpreted using LED technology, with two modules including “brackets” serving as daytime running lights and indicators, as well as a main module for the main lights. But the grille of the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric was also a technical and logistical challenge, for it to be produced in series: it notably has a protective coating against UV rays and another anti-condensation coating.
And to protect it from everyday shocks, the shield has been designed so that it is more prominent, while the grille and headlights are separate elements, which makes their repair easier. The diamond brand tells us more about this new grille, in the video below:
